FAQ on FRAUD/FAKE ISO CERTIFICATION

ISO – International Organization for Standardization has been working on the developing of various management standards to make the things more efficient and user friendly.

ISO 9001 international management standard is known as mother of all standards. It is the standard if properly implemented , it shall cover some part of all the standards.

The certificates issued for ISO 9001 certifications and other system standards have become just a piece of paper which is being printed and given to the organizations without any audit/verifying if the system is being implemented or not. These activities are done by few certification bodies accredited by IAF/Non IAF board. These few people have ruined the value of these wonderful management system standards.

No, issuance of the ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 or any other standard without verifying the proper implementation is a FRAUD or FAKE Certifications.

Few consultants and certification body define the fake or fraud certification in other ways.
They say if the accreditation of the certification body is by a NON IAF Accreditation board and the certificate has been issued by that certification body, the certification is fraud.

Accreditation board is the body which gives the authenticity/approval to the certification bodies to certify the various organizations as per the different ISO standards.
Accreditation bodies follow ISO/IEC 17011 Standard which on successful audit can accredited the certification bodies after auditing their management system as per the standard ISO/IEC 17021 international standard.
The certification bodies can get accredited to various ISO standards and hence can issue the certificates as per the various ISO standards after verifying the proper implementation of the standard(s) in the organization.

Yes, if the certificates are being issued without proper audit of the organization and checking of the compliance of the requirements of the standard(s), the certification is a fake or fraud.
If the proper audit is done and then certificate is issued , the certificate is not a fraud/fake certification.

If anyone launches a company and does not follow ISO/IEC 17021 and get accredited after being audited by a IAF or independent accreditation board and still issues a certificate, it can be called as a fake certificate.

If the status of the certificate cannot be verified on the accreditation board website under the certified organizations directory, that certificate is a fake. Contact the accreditation board and confirm if the certification body is accredited or not.

And various other losses to the organizations.

It can only be helpful in supplying the material to the customer until the customer does not perform the audit from his end.
Once the customer visits the organization, the reputation of the organization shall go down and the by business can be lost.
